Wind-mitigation inspections
A wind-mitigation request is about documenting features relevant to an insurer’s wind-risk evaluation. Kerwin Inspections offers wind-mitigation inspections in Miami-Dade and Broward. Before booking, ask your insurer which form and supporting information it requires and whether the proposed inspection will be accepted. The inspection provides documentation; it does not set your premium or guarantee a discount.

The short answer
What should you know first?
A wind-mitigation inspection has a different purpose from a four-point inspection. Florida updated its uniform wind-mitigation form effective April 1, 2026. Get current requirements from your insurer rather than relying on an older form or a promised discount.
Choosing the service
When does this service fit?
- Owners whose insurer or agent asks for wind-mitigation documentation.
- Homeowners asking whether documented wind-related building features may be considered for insurance credits.
- Buyers who need to distinguish a wind-mitigation form from a four-point report or purchase inspection.
What does wind-mitigation documentation address?
Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation publishes wind-mitigation resources and the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form. Citizens’ form-update guidance describes areas such as roof covering and attachment, secondary water resistance and opening protection.
These are general form topics, not a claim about features present in your home or a promise that a particular feature qualifies for a credit. Ask what property access and supporting records are needed for the proposed service.
Why should you check the form version?
OIR states that the uniform form was updated effective April 1, 2026. Citizens’ March 2026 bulletin says inspections on or after that date must use OIR-B1-1802 Rev. 04/26. Use current insurer instructions for your actual submission rather than treating an archived bulletin as the last word.
OIR also encourages consumers to verify inspector authorization under Florida law. Ask your insurer about required qualifications and acceptance before arranging the inspection. A general regulatory source does not verify any individual inspector’s authorization.
Plan before booking
Cost and timing are separate questions.
What does it cost?
Request a wind-mitigation quote for the property and required documentation. No standalone price or combined insurance-inspection package price is published here.
Tell Kerwin whether your agent has requested wind mitigation alone or additional services, and provide the insurer’s current instructions.

Understand report vs. laboratory timingUseful buying questions
Ask these before booking.
- Which current form and version does my insurer require?
- What professional qualifications and supporting documentation will it accept?
- Have changes to the property affected the usefulness of an earlier report?
- Do I also need a four-point report, and when must each document be submitted?
Limits and expectations
What should you not assume?
- An inspection does not guarantee premium credits, lower insurance costs or insurance eligibility.
- A wind-mitigation form does not replace a four-point insurance inspection or a purchase home inspection.
- Report acceptance depends on current insurer requirements, accurate information and relevant property conditions. Ask the insurer before relying on a prior report.
Common questions
Wind mitigation: questions and answers
Will a wind-mitigation inspection lower my premium?
Not necessarily. Documentation may be relevant to mitigation-related credits, but the insurer determines eligibility and the premium. Ask your insurer for its required form and acceptance criteria; no discount is guaranteed.
Is wind mitigation the same as a four-point inspection?
No. Wind mitigation addresses wind-related building features and documentation. A four-point focuses on roofing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC for underwriting. Ask your insurer which documents it requires.
Can I reuse an older wind-mitigation report?
Ask your insurer first. OIR describes a validity period of up to five years if there are no material structural changes or inaccuracies, but you still need to confirm current form and acceptance requirements for your policy.
